Segway-like Robot Gathers Data for Firefighters

Jun-10-13 Firefighters may soon be getting some help in the field with the new self-balancing, Firefighting Robot.

The two-wheeled FFR, which looks a bit like a Segway, features a central leg able to slide up and down and allow the robot to climb stairs or move over obstacles. Equipped with an array of sensors, the robot would be sent into a burning building in order to scout the interior and create 3D maps of hot spots and locate victims. The information could be sent to the firefighters in real-time, saving time and providing the team with important data before they even enter the building.
