Self-Propelled Endoscopy Device

Self-Propelled Endoscopy Device
Jun-25-11
The first self propelled endoscopy device is piloted through the digestive track, easing strain on patients while providing a better view of the digestive system.

The device, known as the "Mermaid", is just under two inches long and 0.4 inches in diameter, and controls its movement through magnetic machinery. Doctors are able to pilot it with a joystick and and watch its progress on a monitor as it completes its journey of a few hours through the digestive track, detecting hard to see cancers earlier than conventional methods.
