Shocking Underwear Wards Off Assaults

Apr-06-13 Created to address the increased rape and murder incidents in India, the SHE camisole is a sensor-laden undergarment capable of delivering 3,800 kilovolt shocks to potential attackers.

The Society Harnessing Equipment (SHE)camisole was created by three engineering students from SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Tamil Nadu, India and features a circuit board and sensors able to detect unwanted force. Since most attacks begin with the assailant grabbing the woman around the neck or chest, the circuit board is embedded in the bust area of the camisole, where it will deliver up to 82 shocks to the would-be attacker. A polymer lining protects the woman from the shocks, and, at the same time, a cellular module equipped with GPS sends the coordinates to the police.

SHE recently won the Gandhian Young Technology Innovation Award and will be commercially produced by the end of the month.
