Silken Bandage Creates a Bioseal

Silken Bandage Creates a Bioseal
Oct-04-19
A bandage made of melted silken fibers offers a more effective alternative to staples and sutures.

Developed by a team from Arizona University, the technology relies on silk and tiny gold nanorods that will heat up when exposed to laser light. That heat will cause the silk fibers to fuse together with the collagen in tissue, biolacing to form a strong seal. The technique has been proven successful on skin, and the team is now exploring ways to apply the method to internal organs.
