Smartphone-Aided Lab-On-A-Chip Diagnoses Diseases Faster

Smartphone-Aided Lab-On-A-Chip Diagnoses Diseases Faster
Oct-23-17
Researchers have created a portable and easy to use smartphone-based system able to detect a wide range of diseases.

The technology relies on a microfluidic chip embedded with parallel channels. The channels are filled with reagents that fluoresce when exposed to different nucleic acid systems in a drop of bodily fluid. A smartphone and 3D-printed box are used to make the fluorescence easier to detect, while a companion app processes the information to indicate what—if any—disease is present.
