Soft Robotic Glove Augments Hand Muscles

Soft Robotic Glove Augments Hand Muscles
Jun-09-15
Researchers have created a soft robotic glove that could improve the motor control in hand-impaired patients.

The glove was designed with aesthetics in mind, since people will not use it if they don’t feel comfortable wearing it. To create the slender profile, the development team used small, multi-segment actuators, which can support a wide range of natural finger motions, and the control system for the glove is small enough to be worn on a waist belt.

The team is now working on ways to allow the glove to sense the wearer’s intent and react automatically, and believes the glove could also be useful as a therapeutic device.
