Stimulating the Ear to Relieve Parkinson's Symptoms

Stimulating the Ear to Relieve Parkinson's Symptoms
Jan-23-15
A new device developed with help from NASA could help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease.

The device works by using electrodes to deliver "noisy electrical stimulation" to a nerve in the ear that is responsible for balance. When tested on Parkinson's patients, each person demonstrated better balance and a general reduction of symptoms. The team is now working to reduce the size of the device and is studying its effectiveness over a longer period of time.
