T-MOC System Tests Chemo Effectiveness

T-MOC System Tests Chemo Effectiveness
Nov-06-17
A new microfluidic system able to test how well chemotherapy works on tumors during a biopsy could save both money and time.

Chemotherapy is uncomfortable enough without also discovering the therapy is not working, but the new microfluidic device from the team at Purdue University could help.

The two-inch square tumor-microenvironment-on-a-chip (T-MOC) features a simulated natural environment where the tumor cells can grow. Interstitial fluid, which is thought to restrict drug delivery, is also added to the experiments to help provide the most realistic tissue situation. In tests, the device was able to detect the effectiveness of the common chemo agent doxorubicin as well as animal models.
