The FluxCrawler Corrosion Inspector Bot

The FluxCrawler Corrosion Inspector Bot
Jul-06-13
Researchers have created a robot that crawls on cables and conducts important corrosion inspections using magnetic flux leakage tests.

Measuring around 70 cm (27.5 in) long, the Fluxcrawler can inspect cables from four to 20 cm (1.6 to 7.9 in) in diameter. The robot is powered by batteries and controlled via Bluetooth by a computer that displays a graphical representation of the magnetic field along the cable’s entire surface.

The inventors at Fraunhofer have already patented the robot, which they say has successfully been tested on cables in the lab.
