The wearable VAuth invention adds extra security to voice authentication systems.
With the growing popularity of voice-controlled systems comes the increased risk of voice impersonation and security breaches. To help reduce this risk, a team from the University of Michigan created the wearable VAuth (pronounced vee-auth). The VAuth, which can be worn as a pendant, earbuds, or on eyeglasses, monitors the “speech-induced” vibrations of the wearer’s body. By pairing the vibration data with the sound of the person’s voice, the system can create a unique voice command signature.
According to Professor Kang Shin, "VAuth is the first serious attempt to secure this service, ensuring that your voice assistant will only listen to your commands instead of others."
