WattUp Charges Devices Up To Fifteen Feet Away

WattUp Charges Devices Up To Fifteen Feet Away
Jan-10-15
The WattUp wireless charging station uses a combination of RF and Bluetooth to securely charge gadgets up to 15 feet away.

Developed by Energous, the WattUp system consists of a transmitter that establishes contact with devices via low-energy Bluetooth. Once contact is made, the system sends out RF signals that are absorbed and converted to DC power by a receiver chip in the device being charged.

The key to the WattUp's large charging radius is its beam-forming technology that focuses the electromagnetic waves and can track a moving device and recalibrate if needed. This same beam-focusing tech also allows the system to authenticate devices, ensuring only authorized devices can connect to the system.
