Wind Powered Car Crosses Australia

Wind Powered Car Crosses Australia
Feb-18-11
The Wind Explorer car has completed a journey of over 3000 miles, powered by electricity-generating wind turbines and kites.

A unique aspect of The Wind Explorer is that it has multiple ways of being charged. Its lithium-ion battery pack can be recharged overnight using a portable wind turbine, through the grid if there is no wind, and can utilize strong winds with kites. Overall, the cost of electricity was less than $15.

The trip took 18 days, and marked the longest overall distance covered by a wind powered land vehicle.
