August 4, 2012 By Rama Lilnga Swamy

ABSTRACT:
A.P.S.R.T.C. is plying daily 1500 Bus trips to Tirumala Hills for up & down transportation of pilgrims, consuming 15,000 Liters of Diesel. This fast extinct Fossil Fuels consumption emitting 40 tons of CO2 in the aerial distance say 1 km. By integrating latest available technologies in Roller Coaster, Vertical Lifts, etc, we can transport passengers safely.

ARTICLE TEXT:
A PROJECT ON POLLUTION CONTROL &

10 M.W. - POWER GENERATION ON TIRUMALA HILLS

Project site at: - Pedestrian way (steps way) to Tirumala Hills from ‘Sri Vari Mettu’ area in Tirupati. The Steps to Hills are around 2500 nos. Height (straight approximately 540 ft.). We can construct Vertical Lifts (with the Technology available in Market) in series to reach the height, with 120 degrees slant to ground to Tirumala Hills.

At this ‘steps way’ the Hill is slanting 120 degrees from ground. We can build Pillars on the two sides of the Steps and construct first floor and second floor. Railway track will be laid down in the first floor and second floor. These two floors will be connected with a chain link (ladder-like strip steel channel can be laid down in between the tracks (like cycle chain model). A number of trolleys will be arranged to hold the Buses with passengers at the up hills and ground. The trolleys will move up and down along with load (like ‘roller coaster design’). Trolleys design sketch is ready with me.

Proposal Summary:-

POLLUTION CONTROL & POWER GENERATION ON TIRUMALA HILLS

Lift Project for - Pollution Control & Power Generation - through non-conventional Method, using Gravitational force on Tirumala Hills. APSRTC is plying 1500 Bus trips for transportation of pilgrims, consuming 15,000 Liters of Diesel daily with 15% occupancy rate.

Bus Trips during Brahmostavams, 2011 – in 10 days – 32,360.

This fast extinct fossil fuel consumption emitting 40 Tons of Carbon dioxide in the aerial distance say 1 KM. This can be avoided and we can claim "carbon credits" internationally.

This project explained to Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Department Professors, in I. I. T. Chennai, S V University, Tirupati and they appreciated this idea. TTD Authorities insisting to make a pro-to type model (with a cost around Rs. 5, 00,000/-) to take any decision in this regard, like granting ‘Survey Permission’ by Experts, etc. Project Cost rough estimation is Rs.50 Cr. Investors are informed that they are ready to invest Rs.50 Cr, if we can get Permission from TTD Authorities. In the Market, Lifts Technology & material available with carrying capacity up to 45 Tons load and carrying distance up to 160 meters. We can arrange these lifts in series to
cover the total distance and integrate the latest available technologies like Roller Coaster, etc

LIFT PROJECT can be undertaken by anybody or any Organization like L & T through B.O.T (BUILT-OPERATE-TRANSFER) system (OR) FROM DONORS' CONTRIBUTION.

No. of Pilgrims used Bus Services – during Brahmostavams, 2011
– in 10 days – 10,63,130

REVENUE CALCULATION FOR LIFT PROJECT
R T C Bus Ticket Rs.34/-
Lift Charges (say) – a part of ticket charges 10/-
Pilgrims up & down per Day 20,000 nos
Lift Collections per day – (10 x 20,000) =2,00,000/-
Per month Collection – (30 x 2,00,000)= 60,00,000/-
(say) Lift Erecting /Construction Charges – Rs.50 Cr =. 50, 00, 00,000/-
Recovery in months – (Rs.50 Cr. / Rs.60 lakhs) = in 83 Months
Recovery in years in 7 Years
------------------------------------------------------------------
PARASITIC CONSERVATION OF ENERGY
SOURCE OF ENERGY (ROUGH CALCULATION) – forever
(as pilgrims visit Tirumala Hills for Generations together)
DETAILS;- YEAR /MONTH/ WEEK /DAYS
Pilgrims visited Tirumala Hills – during the year 2010-
per year2.54 Cr.--per month-21,16,667--per week4,88,462--per day 69,589 nos

20% of 2.54 Cr. goes uphill by Pedestrian-way and coming down hills using Buses / Vehicles = 50,80,000 nos pilgrims per annum
Weight in Tons @50kg per person
Per year2,54,000 Tons -- per day 696 Tons.

Remarks: - 700 Tons weight available for down movement per day from Tirumala Hills. Because of non-conventional energy power generation, we can get maximum benefits from the Govt and others in the form of permissions, concessions, exemptions, etc

Pilgrims walked uphill in 10 days during Brahmostavams, 2011 –--- 2, 06,029 nos

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power Generation Capacity (rough, non-technical Calculation) :-

Pilgrims - up & down movement per day on an average 1,00,000 nos
No. of Passengers per Bus 50 nos
Total number of trips per day 2,000 trips
Diesel consumption per trip = @ 5 km per Ltr for 50 km distance up & down trip 10 Ltrs
Diesel consumption per day = 2000 trips x 10 ltrs 20,000 Ltrs
Diesel Rate per Litre Rs. 50/-
Total fuel Expenses Rs.1,00,000/-
Electricity Generation Cost per unit (say) Rs.10/-
No. of Units can be generated 10,000 units
Total Power can be Generated per day = 10 M.W.

I want to put forward some points with my little knowledge & End User imagination, regarding the Project: ’ Power Generation and Pollution Control on Tirumala Hills’.

This project can be built at “Srivari Mettu” area. There are 2,500 steps and time needed to climb is nearly 1 ½ Hours, to the Pilgrims by walk. The rough estimation of the distance by Civil Department Engineers, TTD - is 540 ft height (straight height). Other distance is 45 degree slant. From ground to Top Hill is slanting 120 degrees.

I want to construct pillars on both sides of steps and put slab with 120 degrees slant from ground to top. First floor and Second floors to be built. On these floors Railway tracks will be laid down. On these tracks, Trolleys carrying the load of 50 passenger -filled RTC Buses will move up and down. A chain link (like cycle chain model) will be connected to the two floors in between the tracks. Trolleys will be hooked to links in the chain. These trolleys specially designed to give horizontal shape to load. For that, the front wheels of the trolleys will be 1 ft and rear wheels are at ½ ft. height.

So Vertical height loading can be answered with slant construction from top to ground. There are lifts are available in the market with certain capacity and carrying distance. We can connect them in series to reach our needed distance & load.

Bus Weight is 8 tons. Passengers Weight 50 Kg. – (Male 60 to 70 kg and ladies and children 30 to 40 Kg. & on an average it may be 50 kg per person.) This is only my imagination. When Project materializes, Engineers/Experts will design, and take care for vibration, material, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saving of Foreign Exchange:

Out of every 100 Ltrs of Petroleum products (Diesel, Petrol etc) we consume in India,
we are able to produce only 10 liters, the remaining 90 Liters we are importing from foreign countries by paying heavy foreign exchange.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Management Team: This project explained to Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering Department Professors, in I. I. T. Chennai, S V University, Tirupati and they appreciated this idea. TTD Authorities insisting to make a pro-to type model (costing around Rs. 5, 00,000/-) to take any decision in this regard. Project Cost rough estimation is Rs.50 Cr. IIT Chennai Professors are ready to extend technical
Knowhow if they receive work order for the project.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RETURN ON INVESTMENT: We can prepare pro-to type model by investing Rs.5,00,000/- and convince TTD for this project of Rs.50 Cr. which can be under taken by the system BOT (Built Operate-Transfer) or from contribution from Donors. We will get reputation and funds internationally by getting "carbon credits". Pilgrims visit to Tirumala Hills for Generations together. We can generate Power by using the coming down 700 Tons weight per day by integrating 'roller coaster train' technology and
the vertical lift technology, etc.
