Amit Kapoor's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. A UK price-comparison website called for ideas for it to raise market share in an open innovation platform run by the Times Group. My response to the problem was to improve "brand recall" of the website with its existing subscribers, who I perceive are likely to recommend specific "service providers" than the price-comparison website itself, when asked for advice by their family / friends. The issue was rated among the top 30% in the platform.
  2. I won a prestigious global sourcing and innovation awards competition (a European B-school essay competition) in Dec 2007 (www.gsiawards.com). The essay was an individual effort. The problem in question was to look at a why innovation outsourcing wasn't picking up, and the solution was a 3C model Develop capability - Build credibility - Innovate contracts.
  3. I consulted a growing consumer product company based in the UK in an "Open" board meeting called by its MD. One of my ideas to their problem of not understanding demand drivers of their oven-cleaning product, was to look at unrelated products like frozen food (oven-spoilers). I pointed out that during these downtimes, the financial performance of frozen food companies was strong, and this perhaps explained demand for oven cleaning products as well. I aslo suggested that such a correlation can be exploited for marketing and promotions purpose.
