Erik Streed

I am interested in continuing to adapt experimental analysis techniques and practices from quantum physics to practical problems in commerce and industry.

Areas Erik Streed is Knowledgeable in:

Atomic and quantum physics. Visible, near IR, and near UV laser systems. Data mining. Technical system integration.

Techniques Erik Streed Uses:

Data processing with Matlab, C, Mathematica, perl, python, LabVIEW. Fourier/spectral analysis, Bayesian inference, feedback loops. passive and active stabilization techniques. Construction of controlled or double blind type experiments. Independent verification/validation of models. Regression testing. Anomaly/transient detection. Atomic Spectroscopy. Nondestructive testing with lasers, atomic force microscopy, optical microscopy. Quantum mechanics. Interlocking.

Erik Streed's Problem Solving Skills:

  1. Scientific instrument systems integration
  2. Sales lead ranking with statistical models
  3. Ultrahigh vacuum systems
  4. External Cavity Diode lasers and fiber optics
  5. Predicting customer retention with statistical models

Erik Streed's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. Constructed a fiber coupled, frequency stabilized external cavity based laser diode system for use at 399 nm (UV-A band, e.g. near UV) for use in atomic physics experiment. Stabilized the absolute laser frequency to <20 MHz ( months ) with a hollow cathode lamp based spectrometer. Output beam was delivered through single mode optical fiber. Laser has been running for 2.5 yrs with out problems.
  2. Constructed room temperature ultrahigh vacuum system with background pressure ~10^-13 torr (hydrogen dominated). Application was source chamber for production of Rubidium Bose-Einstein condensates. Chamber was constructed of electropolished 304 series stainless steel with ConFlat flanges. Vacuum was maintained with an ion pumps and a titanium sublimation pump. Low background pressure was achieved with a bakeout at 350 C for 1 week. Chamber has been under vacuum since 2001. Background pressure estimated from lifetime of trapped cold atoms.
  3. Developed a mathematical model to predict the likelihood that an existing customer would purchase services in subsequent year. Analysis of client's CRM database was used to derive a prediction formula. Solution is tolerant of missing data. Customer is a large US based group travel organization. Solution was deployed last year. Excellent agreement was observed between predictions and this years sales performance.
  4. Developed a mathematical model to prioritize new sales leads in order of likelihood that they will purchase services during the year. Client's existing CRM database was analyzed to extract statistical information which was then synthesized into a model and optimized via regression testing. Customer is a large US based group travel organization. Solution was deployed in 2006 and has provided very good agreement between predicted success rates and actual sales performance.
  5. Constructed machine to produce and transport Rubidum Bose-Einstein condensates. Integrated Aerotech air bearing translation stage, Princeton instruments CCD camera, Agilent RF and microwave signal generators, ultrahigh vacuum systems, PowerEx high current IGBT modules, high pressure (230psi) water cooled electromagnets with computer control and data acquisition systems. Also frequency stabilized and fiber coupled near IR Toptica external cavity laser diode and tapered amplifier systems.
