Joseph Regan's Problem Solving Experience:

1. I have a Ph.D in biology and over 10 years of experience working in research both in industry and academia. One of the projects that I have recently applied my problem solving expertise to invlolved delineating the lineage relationships that exist between the different cell types that constitute the mammary epithelium (in the breast) as well as to identify genes that regulate stem cell self renewal and/or differentiation. These studies have provided insight into both the cell of origin of the different breast cancer subtypes and of genes which may offer novel targets for therapy. One of the genes identified in my work offers a potential target for prophylaxis in women who are carriers of BRCA1 mutations and is the subject of a paper, of which I am the lead author, in an internationally renowned peer reviewed scientific journal.
