Areas Joshua Johnson is Knowledgeable in:
I am primarily interested in super-efficient building envelopes, solar reflective/absorbtive coatings/surfaces in buildings. I am spending a lot of time working on a Universal Cartesian robot that would replace the need for individual cartesian devices in a shop ( CNC machines, rapid prototypers, laser cutters/scanners, stencil cutters etc. My device is scalable and creates a single device with these capabilities.
Techniques Joshua Johnson Uses:
I like to solve problems from desired result backwards. Just like a maze most issues are best resolved this way. It helps to eliminate variables and focus decision making. I generally also use a pencil, vellum and lots of erasers.
Joshua Johnson's Problem Solving Skills:
- SCUBA diving
- rigging, salvage and deconstruction
- composites layup
- woodworking machine operations
- Machine design and fabrication
- Milling machine operations
- Advanced computer use including CAD/Sketchup/CAM ( not programming.)
- Materials specification, sourcing and selection.
Joshua Johnson's Problem Solving Experience:
- I figured out how to erect a non-guyed wind turbine tower without taking up any space on the ground to tilt or requiring heavy equipment.
- I figured out how to make inflatable 3D shapes using Google Sketchup and old Vinyl billboards.
- I figured out how to brake a difficult metal shape for a 3D laser scanner hung from a helicopter after several shops had given up
- I developed a novel cooling system for a UAV helicopter
- I figured out how to move an entire factory in a few days ( it involved a lot of caffeine and forklifts.)
