I am particularily interested in small rural clinical (human) microbiology laboratories. Small clinical labs usually are able to devote only a small part of one tech's day to microbiology - usually after chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, immunology, blood banking are under control. Cultures are done with minimal expertise, minimal standardization - often most dependent on small automated antimicrobial susceptibility instruments. Much more rapid, accurate and useful culture results could be reported to physicians - which could then be more usefully applied to patient treatment.
