Kepher Ochieng's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. In the arid and arid areas where I work, there is alot of dependency on relief food. I discovered that there was an abundance of the aloe plant in these areas. Hence I did some community mobilization and training on the production of the aloe secundiflora plant. I came up with a cottage industry known as Muino aloe processing and marketing plant. They are involved in soap manufacture and have improved greatly on their household livelihoods and are now able to escape the dependency syndrome.
  2. I have organised 3900 women from the arid lands into common interest groups and exposed them to the donor world and income generating projects. in the area where I work, women are equated to children and do not take part in decision making. the women are now able to stand up to their rights and make informed choices on matters of life. By exposing them to current trends in development and what is happening in the rest of the country and the world, they can now be able to think of economic empowerment and current information and they make my day quite busy.
