Nona Gross's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. In 2001, when faced with the rumblings of greenbuild, I suggested to my firm that we consider environmentally preferrable purchasing initatives adn build it into our global sourcing strategy. I was faced with senior management not knowing about the validity of the rationale I proposed and it was never adopted as a initative. Myself and a very small group of "wave-riders", moved in this direction under the radar and implemented global standards to support greenbuild concepts, prior to LEED being excepted (and expected) as a business requirement. This forced mfgs. to comply with our requirements and design products according to the LCA we deemed to be neccessary for the volume of goods I negotiated.
  2. Worked with Ray Anderson and Interface flooring on production of carpet tile solution used throughout corporate offices to increase and improve recycle-ability of carpet through a carpet take back program, and recyclable backing.
  3. While emloyed with Citigroup I volunteered to be the Citi ambassador to the City of Albuquerque and named as Chair to execute and oversee implementation of a commercial recycling program which brought to light the neccessity and commitment of big business to environmental issues affecting climate change.
  4. Worked with a supplier on designing a piece of medical furniture/ equipment to be used in patient rooms. Facilitated project from concept to mock-up to production. Utilized today at Kaiser Permenente throughout their medical centers nationally.
  5. When working at large biotech company I recognized that our scientists were experiencing significant problems of discomfort and ill-ease when it came to their seating choices. Ergonomically and design-wise the market did not have the proper chair/stool to support them for long periods of time and comfortably. The chair they needed had to go from a desk height to a bench height. I sought the solution by working with the scientists, and a select mfg. to devise a ergonomic chair that would not only meet their needs functionally, but all be make out of post-consumer recycled content and be recycled. The design was innovative, sleek, cost effective and affordable and we made the switch. It is now exclusive to this particular company and a win-win for all.
