Administering cyprofloxacin to healthy rat subjects, taking their blood at intervals of time to analyze amount of the drug using HPLC. A pharmacokinnetic profile is then prepared. The analysis is repeated after concomitant administration of herbal extracts and the drug so that the two profiles are compared. It was found that concomitant administration of the herb and the drug reduces the bioavailabilty of the drug in the plasma, thereby decreasing the efficacy of the drug. This research enables you to advice peoeple not to take cyprofloxacin and herb (e.g tea) together. But if they must do must do, then enough interval e.g 1 or 2 hours has to be given in order to avoid the problem above.
