    COMPANY 'X' USED TO SELL WHITE DIAMONDS AT DIFFERENT PRICES BASED ON THE CUT, CARAT AND SIZE OF THE DIAMONDS.THE TARGET MARKET FOR 'X' WAS LARGELY WORKING WOMEN FORCE MOST OF WHOM COULD NOT AFFORD TO BUY DIAMONDS ON A REGULAR BASIS. DIAMOND BECAME AN OCCASIONAL JEWELLARY FOR THEM. I WANTED TO CHANGE THEIR MIND SETUP AND MAKE DIAMOND AN EVERYDAY JEWELLARY. TO DO THAT YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE DIAMOND AT A CHEAPER PRICE AND LAB TREATED COLORED DIAMONDS COULD BE PROVIDED AT A CHEAPER PRICE. THESE DIAMONDS ARE NOT SYNTHETIC. THEY ARE SENT TO LAB TO BE TREATED FOR THEIR DEFECTS. I TOLD 'X' TO IMPORT COLORED DIAMONDS AND TAKE AN EFFECTIVE PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN. THE TARGET MARKET, USUALLY WEARS DRESS WITH COMPLETE COLOR MATCHING, MEANING: THEY WEAR RED SHOES WITH RED SAREE AND RED JEWELLARY OR BLACK WITH BLACK ETC. OTHER GREETINGS CARD SHOPS SELL ENGLISH CARDS. 1) I TOLD HIM TO BUY A COUPLE OF PC'S WITH PRINTERS AND SCANNERS WHICH WILL ALLOW HIM TO CUSTOMIZE CARDS. CUSTOMERS CAN SAY WHAT SORT OF MESSAGE AND PICTURE THEY WANT IN THEIR CARD AND HIS SHOP WILL PROVIDE. 2)I NOTED THAT AZAD CARDS ARE OLD STYLED AND FAILING TO MEET THE TASTES OF THE TEENAGERS.BECAUSE THEY USE TRADITIONAL BANGLA LANGUAGE IN THEIR CARDS. MOREOVER, AZAD DONT HAVE CARDS THAT COULD BE SOLD IN A DAILY BASIS.(i.e. cards to propose your girl friend, TO make fun of your friends etc). SO I ADVISED HIM TO USE LOCAL STREET LANGUAGE IN HIS CARDS WHICH GOES WITH THE EVERYDAY LIFE OF THE TEENAGERS. 3)I TOLD HIM TO KEEP SOME EXTRA OPTIONS FOR MEMBERS LIKE DELIVERING CARDS, GIVING THEM REMINDERS ON THEIR SPECIAL OCCASIONS ETC.

    MY ROLE: I WON 3RD PLACE IN A LOCAL BUSINESS COMPETITION WITH THIS IDEA.

    EXPERIENCE: ALL THE PARTICIPANTS WERE TOLD TO DEVELOP A BUSINESS PLAN ABOUT CONTRACEPTIVE PILLS IN BANGLADESH. I OBSERVED BEFORE THAT THERE IS AN ONGOING TREND FOR HERBAL MEDICINES AND OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE WHOLE WORLD AS WELL AS IN BANGLADESH(i.e. herbal facials, herbal hairgels, herbal medicines and even herbal soaps/shampoos etc.). PEOPLE USE HERBAL PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE HERBAL PRODUCTS HAVE LESS SIDE EFFECTS THAN REGULAR CHEMICAL PRODUCTS. REGULAR CONTRACEPTIES TOO HAVE MANY SIDE EFFECTS AND FOR THIS REASON MANY WOMEN PREFER CONDOM RATHER THAN HAVING THESE PILLS. SO, I THOUGHT WHY NOT INTRODUCE HERBAL CONTRACEPTIVES IN THE MARKET! THAT WAS MY PLAN. WELL HERBAL CONTRACEPTIVES ARE NOT WELL KNOWN IN THE WESTERN WORLD BUT IT HAS GAINED SOME POPULARITY IN THE ORIENTAL MEDICINES. AND THE IDEA WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN ME 3RD POSITION IN THE COMPETITION.
