  7. Introducing new raw materials, like polymers, and coatings into the market.

Sander van Loon's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. With my patented binder system at SigmaKalon/PPG, WO2006079516, a new waterborne coating is developed by me. For this coating development, I selected and tested raw materials for the formulations. Unique reactions and properties were found with several formulations, which made it possible to tune the formulations according to the needs. In this case a waterborne coating for immersed use was developed, WO2008003695. This unique formulation forms after drying of 10-15 minutes a water resistant coating, thus does not flushes away by rain etc. This coating can be overcoated with a broad range of topcoats and can be used for immersion service (marine coatings).
  2. Development of a innovative coating for steel protection based upon a binder system of the customer. I am guiding, advicing and developing this new coating system and seeking for markets to introduce this new coating. During this development I have found soome interesting interactions of raw materials and have found a new market for this technology. This project is currently running to finish the development and start the introduction in the selected market.
  3. I founded my own company, VLCI, after a work experience of 7 years in the Marine and Protective coatings laboratory of SigmaKalon/PPG. VLCI provides R&D services for the coating industry. Projects are running and can be performed for coating suppliers as well as raw material suppliers. The R&D projects are performed on the laboratory of VLCI. The R&D services are innovative, but with a practical approach and commercial use. The R&D services can be performed in the complete innovations process, from literature study up to market introduction. Soon, a high throughput system to make formulations and synthesis polymers will be available to speed up the R&D.
  4. During my time at SigmaKalon/PPG, I developed a new waterborne inorganic binder system. This binder system was organically modified to be stable in water, but reactive upon drying. This binder system is patented with me as inventor at SigmaKalon, WO2006079516. The binder system froms a film after drying and is water resistant, which makes it suitable for immersed use.
