Fundamental mass, energy and conservation balances as well as any other constitutive equations necessary to decrease the degrees of freedom of the system in question. The equations are then entered in an environment like Matlab or even Excel to perform the necessary process simulations.

Being a lecturer, I have taken part in the solution of many theoretical and actual fundamental modelling challenges.
My Masters degree was focused on the construction of a process simulation to predict the effect of various operating conditions on the efficiency of palladium extraction.
I have helped develop a forecasting model for Anglo Platinum, based on process efficiencies, to estimate production figures.
I have developed a mass balance for the Anglo Platinum Precious Metals Refinery, using lab analyses to determine the movement of various metal species throughout the plant.
