Outside of work:

By the age of 16 I had scaled Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing mountain in the world – to raise money for this I walked the 180 mile Offa’s Dyke path that spans the length of Wales within nine days. In my youth I was a keen white water kayaker, hot air balloonist, swimmer and long distance runner. I currently run a hundred miles a month and am aiming to be strong enough to complete an ultra-marathon by summer 2014.

I have a real passion for travel. Seeing new places, and particularly how other cultures live, fascinates me. I am a family man and work hard, so get little opportunity to travel abroad but my mountaineering habit takes me all over the UK and we are lucky enough to explore Australia fairly often due to family connections. Additionally I am planning a trip to Belize to get my expedition leaders qualification at a suitable time in the future.

To relax I enjoy reading and walking. I also love dogs but am not in the position to have one due to work commitments, so I am often found down at the local dog school helping out so that I can get my canine fix.
