Areas Daniel Lang is Knowledgeable in:
Electrical protection and control, power semiconductors, electrical modelling software, risk analysis and mitigation.
Techniques Daniel Lang Uses:
When a problem is identified, I immediately take a step back and ask why it is a problem to begin with. After identifying possible routes to circumvent the need for a solution, I then conduct a high level assessment of current technologies. If the problem has been proven to be singular, I then begin to work on the marginal return of a solution. If the marginal return of a solution is too low to justify developing a solution, I will then stop. If the marginal return justifies developing a solution, I then begin producing a software model of the problem. I will then, by means of crowd-sourcing of ideas through databases and multiple design and engineering fora, converge to a small number of best possible ways to approach the solution. Once the possible solutions are modeled and simulated, the resultant principal solution can be confirmed.
Daniel Lang's Problem Solving Skills:
- Electrical Power Systems Engineering
- Electrical System Modelling
- Electric Motors and Generators
- Power Systems Protection and Control
Daniel Lang's Problem Solving Experience:
- Developed solution to high current, high speed bolted phase switch for use in arc flash mitigation in the electrical power industry. The device utilizes an ultra-fast saturable reactor to effectively short circuit the phases, causing all other higher impedance paths to open circuit, and the upstream overcurrent protection to trip.
