I bring a wide range of knowledge, experience and natural curiosity to any problem. Most of my colleagues state that in addition to my energy, my unique contribution to any team is a fresh outlook inspired by my wide vision, especially my ability to see connections between apparently disjoint fields.

John Erickson's Problem Solving Experience:
- Conceived and led the development of a lightweight federation mechanism that enabled open source institutional repositories to federate for a wide variety of applications. A research project based on a major open source digital object repository platform.
- Led the creation of a platform for content-centered, on-demand collaboration spaces in the cloud. Inverted the tradition content/application relationship to enable teams to use a variety of social networking schemes to interact without losing the context of their task. For a major corporate research lab
- Conceived, architected, managed and evangelized a novel platform for high-speed, full-function testing of memory products (modules) for mid-range and high-end systems. Employed optical timing based on a 2GHz clock; a distributed programmable pattern generator utilizing ECL gate arrays and high-speed serial memories; GUI for interactive test pattern design; networked tester monitoring. An internal advanced development for a global technology company.
- Conceived and managed the development of the first real-time Web-based copyright permissions service for a wide variety of media types and purposes.
- Invented an early digital rights management (DRM) technology, the first solution to emphasize associating both static and dynamic (web-served) copyright information to content distributed online, thus facilitating legal reuse. Founded and managed a startup to pursue its development. IP was derived from my PhD. research. My startup was acquired in 1997 by a major DRM technology company, and the IP is still "in play" (four patents and counting...)
