Problem Solver

Julia Ryan

Areas Julia Ryan is Knowledgeable in:

I am quite good (and really enjoy) at all math courses before (and including) precalculus, with the ability to clearly explain, teach, and/or discuss the reasoning and steps behind it. Additionally, I am quite good at basic Python problem solving and/or finding errors.

Techniques Julia Ryan Uses:

I have great perseverance and patience when it comes to problem solving--I am not at all afraid to do persistent trial-and-error and make mistakes along the way (that I learn from). I'm super determined and will spend however much time and effort it may take.
My other prominent problem-solving strategy is looking outside of the box. Whenever I seem to be at a dead-end or unable to solve it, I always remind myself to look at the bigger picture and change perspectives (or methods) on it. I'll gather insight through research and keep reworking from new angles until the product is well done.

Julia Ryan's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. For a complex English assignment worth 30% of my final grade, I made deep connections to other texts and subjects altogether, using psychological scientific papers and analysis to create an elevated final project (and received a near-perfect grade).
  2. Have gotten As in every math course since starting high school (now in college), doing exceptionally well on the word/model problems units in senior year of high school and freshman year of college.
  3. For a semester-long project, I created a 20 year plan for renewable energy considering budget, politics, public opinion, and economic implications.
  4. Although I've used endless problem solving in my 2 years of computer science, one example is an interactive single-player shooter game using Java, learning it as I went along.
