Mari Lewis's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. I am working with a local park to improve biodiversity. I am organising before and after species surveys, arranging a wildflower planting/sowing day, applying for funding, soliciting participation from people in vulnerable groups locally, preparing suitable interpretation.
  2. I designed visitor interpretation for Deep Sea World - a commercial aquarium in Scotland- to answer specific brief to slow visitor travel through site therefore improve perception of site size and quality - designed games for visitors to ask "What is it doing?" rather than "Which species (on tick-list) is it?"= requires pause and study. Very positive feedback from Site manager and curator.
  3. I designed a new poster for Edinburgh Council (Scotland) to inform residents who have to use communal street-sited bins, which items should go in which bins.
I also designed a bag (based on poster design) to be given to locals to carry their recycling. Positively received by residents in district.
  4. In my previous job working as a shop manager for a national art gallery, I was seconded for 3 months in order to design a new procedure, and then write the instructions, for a new 'Procedure for Cash Handling' for Retail department including ticket desks, in advance of a special Audit.
    Audit passed 100%

Also asked to produce a 'Product Information File' - to assist shop assistants in achieving sales targets- file designed around sales assistants' surveyed needs regarding satisfying customers.
  5. I wrote the crowdfunding text for Heart of Newhaven (a locally-formed grassroots charity bidding to buy a disused school and turn it into a community centre). Crowdfunding target achieved, and subsequently the building has been 'Asset-transferred' to the local community.
