Innovative People

Michael Schultz

Michael Schultz With 20 years of experience in the fuels, chemicals, and renewable energy sectors, I enjoy working on process development, scaleup and commercialization of innovative process technology to reduce carbon footprint and improve the bottom line. I have been granted more than 40 US patents during my career.

Currently I manage my firm PTI Global Solutions, helping companies bring value to their great ideas for next generation products and technologies in the bioproducts, chemicals, fuels, and nutrition space. I have helped companies develop and execute scale-up plans, build capability, assess technology and carry out due diligence of investment targets.

As VP Engineering of LanzaTech I led the scaleup of first of its kind gas fermentation technology, securing several commercial projects, and played a key role in $168M capital raising during Series C and D and a 10X increase in company valuation.

Prior to LanzaTech I worked in Malaysia with Battelle Science and Technology collaborating with Petronas, the Malaysian Oil major, to implement renewable fuel and chemical initiatives.

This followed a 10 year career at Honeywell UOP, where I led technology development projects across teams in Process Design Development, Aromatics Derivatives & Polymer Technology Center, and Exploratory Platforms, resulting in new commercial offerings such as UOP’s first dividing wall distillation columns and an improved catalyst for ethylbenzene production.

I've developed global experience from extended postings in Malaysia and New Zealand, and interactions with key partners in US, China, India, SE Asia, Japan, Korea, Europe, and Russia.
