  2. drug design
  3. Metabolomics
  4. NMR

Michael Shapiro's Problem Solving Experience:

  1. Through technical leadership and expertise developed a number of new cutting edge approaches and strategies to Lilly medicinal chemistry. These include the Orthogonal SAR concept, for lead optimization and the lead generation paradigm called the LEAN matrix.
Championed the Lead generation strategy “Do Drug Discovery Better”
Supervised the Ires MS non-covalent complex binding studies.
Established novel lead generation technologies using RAMPED-UP NMR, which was specially sited by both Nature and DDT. Through his guidance and support the size of proteins that can be studied by NMR has increased substantially. A novel method for determining stereochemistry in small molecules has been developed.
Designed Core Group concept in Research Technologies.
Technology team member for Singapore Systems Biology effort.
Championed and initiated the technical staff fellow reviews for Lilly
