3D Printer Can Alter Design in Mid-Print

3D Printer Can Alter Design in Mid-Print
Oct-17-12
A new 3D printer using UV light allows the designer to alter the specs of the 3D model in mid-print, providing more flexibility and design options.

Designed husband and wife team Liz and Kyle von Hasseln, their Phantom Geometry technique is a whole new production method that uses light from an off-the-shelf projector to cure the photo-sensitive resin to a solid form. The projector is mounted on a robotic arm below a shallow container of resin, where it beams the UV rays upwards through the container’s transparent bottom. Because the system uses realtime-feeback and feed-forward mechanisms, the printing data can be interrupted and modified at any time.
