Active Camouflage

Active Camouflage
Jan-15-11
A new active camouflage system uses a form of electronic ink to project imagery of a vehicle's surrounding terrain, rendering it somewhat invisible.

Developed by the British defense firm BAE Systems, the idea is based upon a set of electronic sensors attached to the tank’s exterior which would process the vehicle’s surroundings and then recreate the colors and shapes of the environment onto the tank's body. The active camouflage could change as the vehicle moves through the terrain.

Currently the system exists only on paper, but BAE scientists are confident they can bring it to light within the next few years.
