Axium Neurostimulator Relieves Lower Limb Pain

Axium Neurostimulator Relieves Lower Limb Pain
Feb-21-16
The Axium neurostimulator, which was developed to treat chronic pain in the lower limbs, has been awarded FDA approval.

Developed by a team at St. Jude Medical, the Axium can help alleviate intractable pain in the lower limbs of adults suffering from the chronic pain disorder called complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS I and II). This common disorder affects one in every ten adults, many who are not able to find adequate relief.

The Axuim helps to relieve chronic pain by allowing physicians to deliver targeted stimulation to the DRG, a structure in the spine packed with nerves that send information to the brain. The team hopes that the targeted treatment will offer a new option for patients for whom traditional spinal cord stimulation has not been effective.
