A simple test able to measure stress in a fluid sample could lead to home testing kits and on-the-job stress-safety evaluations.
As people have become more aware of the effect stress has on health, they have also become more interested in tracking it. To take some of the stress out of stress monitoring, the team from the University of Cincinnati created a biosensor test able to measure the amount of stress hormones in a sample of saliva, blood, urine or sweat. The simple test will check for several stress biomarkers via a UV light and photodiode that detects the optical change caused by the biomarkers, and requires only a drop of the chosen fluid.
