Blood Test Predicts Alzheimer's

Blood Test Predicts Alzheimer's
Mar-11-14
A team of researches has developed a blood test for Alzheimer’s able to predict the disease three years in advance, and with 96 percent accuracy.

The test, developed by a team from Georgetown University, works by identifying the ten chemicals in the blood that serve as markers for the disease. These chemicals are released as the nerve cell membranes break down, and can be detected in the blood plasma. Currently, the test requires an assortment of specialized equipment, but the team is working to create a simpler option.

The ability to diagnose Alzheimer’s early could allow for the devolvement of new treatments that could be implemented before the disease begins to show symptoms.
