Bolt Tent Offers Protection from Lightning Strikes

Jan-12-16 Designed for hikers and other folks that can be caught in a surprise storm, the Bolt tent help reduce the risk of death from a lightning strike.

Created by Kama Jania, the Bolt tent is made to be set up quickly, and includes the standard tent accessories such as connectors and waterproof fabric. The tent differs from conventional tents, however, with its special groundsheet that prevents the transmission of ground current as well as the design that directs the voltage away from the tent’s interior. In tests, the Bolt tent was able to redirect electrical charges via its components, scorching the tent but presumably protecting the people inside.
