Breath Test Detects Cancer

Breath Test Detects Cancer
Feb-26-20
Scientists have developed a new type of breath test that offers a cheap and non-invasive way to detect esophageal cancer, which is very difficult to detect during its early stages.

If diagnosed in its late stages it is very difficult to treat, and more than 16,000 people are expected to die from the disease in 2020.

People with the pre-cancerous condition Barret's esophagus are at high risk of developing esophageal cancer, but the test for the condition involves the use of a long tube with a camera attached.

Testing the breath for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can, with 91% accuracy, diagnose the condition, leading to early treatment.
