Building Tires from Food Waste

Building Tires from Food Waste
Mar-09-17
A new material made from food waste could replace some of the petroleum used in tire manufacturing.

Developed by a team from Ohio State University, the material—made from eggshells and tomato skins—is meant to replace carbon black, a filler that makes rubber more durable. To create the greener filler, the team dried the shells and skins and then ground them into a powder that was added to the rubber, adding strength without impacting flexibility.
