Cancer Fighting Plastic Beads

Cancer Fighting Plastic Beads
Mar-30-11
The QuadraSphere, a small plastic bead, could help ease the pain and trauma of chemotherapy for patients suffering from liver cancer.

The QuadraSphere consists of a sodium acrylate and vinyl alcohol polymer that release drugs gradually. When the QuadraSpheres are placed near the tumor in an artery, the beads block the capillaries nearby, which starves the tumor while also keeping the drugs confined to the area.

While the official study results won't be known for four years, side studies seem to confirm that the beads can reduce the tumors with less side effects.
