Outdoor enthusiasts, handy men & women, and everyday gadget junkies unite! Colony Gear just redefined the carabiner.

Ben Durham of Salt Lake City has developed a patent pending design to end all and also redefines the way we traditionally use the gadget we already use for everything! However, what really makes this product into a story is the way the inspiration struck.

While on a fifty mile hike with a group of scouts, one of the scout’s backpacks was falling apart and they had to replace his shoulder strap connection with a carabiner, making it possible for the troop as a whole to finish the difficult hike together.

“I wanted to give them something that would be unique and different and that they could wear to remember what we accomplished together.” – Ben Durham

The word Caraband™ is a portmanteau - a combination of a carabiner and a men’s band.

The Caraband™ is not intended to provide the same weight that a professional carabiner would. But it can definitely play a more active role in one’s day to day. There is absolutely nothing like this on the market.

Ben showed this concept and prototype to friends and family, and quickly learned that the Caraband™ has so many more benefits than just looking cool and suspending stuff in a pinch.

We all know a ring at work is a major safety hazard and can cause serious injuries. Rings can get caught in power tools or stuck against objects, conveyors, and moving parts of machinery. Doctors can’t have jewelry on their hands when they operate. Sports and outdoor enthusiasts often take their rings off to avoid injury or to perform better without the distraction of jewelry on the hands. Now they can secure it in a safe place that will not get lost.

With the Caraband™ the doctors, as a major perk for their spouses, can still show their wedding ring by placing it on their scrub belt loops or on the new scrubs that have a loop built into the shirt or pants. Water skiers can avoid the risk of ring avulsion. Machine operation, food service and prep work can all be done now with their ring in a safe secure place.

While camping, you can use your ring to secure stuff to your backpack, hang something off your belt loop, and suspend your lantern in your tent.

Because the Caraband™ is made of titanium (a preferable material used in automobiles, aerospace, jewelry and many other industries) it is known for its high strength and toughness, durability and low density, and ability to withstand high and low temperatures and corrosion. It will become the gadget no one wants to be without!
