The CarePredict system does more than send an alert to signal a fall—it tracks the activity of seniors to anticipate a fall before it happens.
The CarePredict system consists of a wrist-worn sensor able to detect arm movements, posture and walking speed, and four peel-and-stick sensors attached to the walls of the home. Once installed in the home, the system tracks the user’s movements and body orientation for seven days to learn the usual pattern of activity. After the initial set-up is completed, the CarePredict Tempo will be able to detect changes in the patterns that could signal a decline in health, as a well as a fall. Changes in patterns are sent by text, email or push notification to a designated contact.
The CarePredict system was also designed with the reluctance to such systems in mind. When Satish Movva, CEO and founder of the CarePredict, first began working on the system, his mother told him that she did not want to wear a health tracking device “unless it looks nice.” In response, the company has created design drawings for a beaded bracelet style and plans to create a device that looks similar to a man’s watch.
