Ceramic-Embedded Fabric Prevents Road Rash

Ceramic-Embedded Fabric Prevents Road Rash
Sep-03-14
The SCOTT RC ProTec bikewear is made with ceramics and carbon fiber to help reduce the severity of skin abrasions caused by crashing and sliding along the ground.

Road rash—scratched and scraped skin caused by high-speed wipe outs—can lead to infections and long recovery times, even if no bones are broken. Developed in collaboration with Schoeller Textiles, the SCOTT RC ProTec bikewear kit was designed to help reduce the severity of road rash by incorporating a fabric woven with carbon fiber and studded with ceramic particles into select areas of the shorts and shirt. The ceramic helps prevent the fabric from shredding when it slides across asphalt or dirt, but does not interfere with feel of the clothing.
