Chemical Sensor Tracks Health Through Breath

Chemical Sensor Tracks Health Through Breath
Oct-07-13
A chemical sensor able to track chemical markers in breath could one day allow users to track their health and fitness levels by exhaling onto their smartphone.

The sensor analyzes metabolites in the breath to track changes, such as cancer or diabetes, in real time. According to Sam Khamis, who founded Adamant two years ago, the technology is meant to be embedded in a smartphone case (the current prototype) or as a handheld option. Although the sensor would be designed to function as a detection device at first, Khamis is working toward creating a full diagnostic device.

Khamis also believes the sensor technology could be adapted for use in a wide range of medical devices.
