Chip Can Identify a Disease in Minutes
Mar-04-12
Researchers have developed a device able to detect diseases in only a matter of minutes, significantly increasing the chances of patient recovery.

Developed by researchers at the University of Tennessee, the device consists of a microchip that has been treated with disease-specific antigens. When a blood sample is placed on the chip, it is quickly able to identify specific antibodies in the blood and automatically signal the medical personnel if it senses infection.

The developers hope to increase the range of the device to cover a wide array of diseases.
