The Clever Buoy system could help prevent shark attacks by warning swimmers when a dangerous shark is in the area.
Developed by the Australian company Shark Attack Mitigation Systems, the Clever Buoy self-contained system consists of a sonar system, onboard computer and custom-built battery. As the sonar system gathers images of the sea creatures in the vicinity, the computer uses algorithms to analyze the shape and swimming motions in order to identify any dangerous predators. If a shark is detected, the system will send an alert via Australia's telecommunications network to the lifeguards on the beach.
