Conductive Cosmetics Launches Drones with a Wink

Conductive Cosmetics Launches Drones with a Wink

Beauty Tech designer Katia Vega has developed a way to activate electronics with a blink of an eye—literally—with her conducting cosmetics.

Vega created the powerful cosmetics by infusing standard makeup with conductive elements and sensors. An exaggerated wink will cause her metallized false eyelashes and conductive eyeshadow to complete a very low voltage circuit, which allows the information to be sent to a circuit inside a headband. The headband then activates the target object via an infrared beam. Vega demonstrated the blink-control ability by triggering a small, hand-held drone and turning on an LED display headpiece.

Vega is also investigating other wearable technologies, such as false fingernails with hidden RFID tags that can be used to open electric doors or create music without touching an object.
