Control Your Smartphone From Across the Room

Mar-07-15 The new "Ultra-fast Ultra-far Interaction" technology from Elliptic Lab lets users control their mobile devices from up to seven feet away.

The technology uses ultrasound to track and recognize different hand gestures, including taps and swipes, along with hand distance. As the ultrasound signals are sent from the device's speakers, they reflect off the user's hand and are recorded by the microphone—creating a 180 degree field of gesture recognition around the device.

The team believes the technology could also find its way into the automotive and appliance markets.
