Controlling Live Bacteria

Controlling Live Bacteria
Mar-25-10
Researchers have turned bacteria into fully-compliant biological nanorobots by using a computer-controlled magnetic field.

They used microbes known as magnetotactic bacteria, which will follow the pull of a magnetic field, coaxing them into forming a giant, computer-controlled swarm that scientists guided into build a small pyramid.

Another experiment directed the bacteria to move through the blood stream of a rat. They foresee using the bacteria to deliver drugs to a specific site in the body, or to repair an organ.
