Cool Bricks Hold Water to Cool Homes

Cool Bricks Hold Water to Cool Homes
Feb-20-15
The 3D-printed bricks Cool Bricks from Emerging Objects can be filled with water to passively cool building interiors.

The Cool Bricks were inspired by the Muscatese evaporative cooling window—a combination wooden screen and ceramic, water-filled vessel used in desert areas to passively cool houses. Instead of a ceramic vase on a window, though, the water is spread throughout the house within the bricks, which are made up of a lattice-like ceramic structure that holds water in the pores. Air flowing through the bricks is cooled by the water, which lowers the home's internal temperature without relying on electricity.
